Company Strategies

strategy is a long-term plan that companies create to reach the desired state they envision. A strategy includes the company's goals and objectives, the type of products and services they plan to build, the customers they want to sell to, and the markets they serve to make profits.

Since companies usually do not post their strategies to the public due to fear of losing their competitive advantage, it is not easy to find information about their strategies. However, you can find some information about their strategies by reading the Company News, SEC 10-K Filling, Earnings Calls, and Investment Publications such as Analyst's Reports and Equity Reports.

Company Strategies

10-K is a comprehensive report filed annually by public companies about their financial performance. The report is required by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and is more detailed than the annual report.

Within the Form 10K, you may find some good information about the company's strategy. In Item 1 and 1A about Business Summary and Risk Factors, you can find information about the company's risks and challenges. Also, in the item about Management's Discussion and Analysis, you can find the company's perspective and the results of operations.

Earnings call is a conference call between the management of a public company, analysts, investors, and the media to discuss the company's financial results during a given reporting period, such as a quarter or a fiscal year. An earnings call is usually preceded by an earnings report. The term "earnings call" is a combination of a company's report of "earnings," such as its net income or earnings per share, and the conference "call" to discuss results.

By reading the transcripts of earning reports, you can understand some of the company's strategies, and the method they use to manage the industry pressures and competition.

You can find the company's Earnings Call transcripts in:

Analyst’s reports are used by investors to decide if they want to invest in a specific company or industry. Some reports focus on the company’s recent financials and their expected share price movements. Some analysts also write about the current and future outlook for the state of the company or industry, so the analyst’s reports are often a great source for information about strategic initiatives within public companies.

You can find the Analyst's Reports in:

On Nexis Uni homepage, under "Guided Search", click on " A Publication", type the company's name or ticker in the first search box, and select the publication name or a report provider such as "Weiss Stock Research Reports" under 'Find Publication" in the second search box, and hit 'Search".

Note: You must first type the name of the publication under "Find Publication", wait until the databases load it, and then you can select it.
