About the Oral History Collection

In the early 1970s, East Texas State University, now East Texas A&M University, established the Oral History Office under the direction of Corrine Crow and Dr. James Conrad. While no longer a separate office, oral histories remain a large component of and collecting area for the Special Collections Department.

Our full oral history inventory is available as a finding aid within ArchivesSpace. Each oral history is cataloged using a unique identifier, the OH number.

While many of our older oral histories are available in a digital format, the majority are only available on the original cassettes. Due to the fragility of the cassette tape, we digitize our oral histories on-demand. When requesting access to oral histories, please allow sufficient time for the digitization of the original recordings and the creation of access copies. Our oral histories average two hours in length per interview, which equals approximately four hours processing time.

Online Oral Histories

Online access to selected oral histories is available in A&M-Commerce Digital Commons, which will continue to be updated as new content is added
