Import from most Database or Google Scholar
The Waters Library subscribes to hundreds of databases and the steps below should work with most of them.
Note: You must have the Save to RefWorks button installed on your browser.
Use the information on this page (you'll need to login to your RefWorks account), to drag and drop the Save to RefWorks button on your browser's Favorites bar. Note: The Favorites bar needs to be visible and unlocked in order to complete this action. Consult the Help information for the browser you use for more information if the Favorites bar doesn't display. Additionally, your browser may not support the drag and drop option. This documentation will provide information on adding Save to RefWorks to your browser manually.
To capture multiple references:
- Click on the Save to RefWorks button while viewing a list of search results.
- All the references on the page should appear in the right sidebar.
- Identify which references you want to send to RefWorks by clicking the checkbox to the left of the reference, or if you want all of the references, click on the checkbox to the left of Select All.
- Edit the metadata for each reference by clicking on the right-facing arrow to expand the metadata fields.
- Use arrows to move through each reference in edit mode.
- Click the Save to RefWorks button when ready.
To capture a single reference:
- Click on the link for the reference of interest
- Click on the Save to RefWorks button.
- Edit the metadata if appropriate.
- Click the Save to RefWorks button when ready.
Once the references have been transferred to your RefWorks library, you can view, edit the metadata, and associate them with appropriate subject folders.
Note: If you do not want to use the "Save to RefWorks" button, most databases have a citation tool that will allow you to either export directly to RefWorks or to download a copy of the metadata to upload manually. Look for a cite icon with in the article details.
