Citing with APA

A Waters Library guide to the APA citation style.

Citation Managers

A citation manager, also called a reference manager, is a third-party software tool that allows users to collect their research sources in one location, organize them, and generate a bibliography or in-text citations in the style manual of their choice. Students, faculty, and staff have access to RefWorks through Waters Library. Other options are available externally, such as EndNote, Zotero, and Mendeley. Many citation managers offer paid versions with additional features.

Note: Any automatic citation generator can produce errors. Always double check your citations to make sure that both the content and the formatting are correct.

RefWorks

RefWorks is a browser-based citation manager, meaning that you can use it through the RefWorks website without downloading a standalone software program. You may use RefWorks as long as you are affiliated with ETAMU, but you will need to transfer your account to a new email address or export your reference list when you graduate.

Waters Library has published a detailed guide on how to use RefWorks, including instructions on how to import and organize references, generate a bibliography, and link RefWorks to Microsoft Word or Google Docs:

If you would like assistance using RefWorks, you can meet with a librarian in person or by Zoom to get one-on-one help.

RefWorks publishes tutorials in English and Korean on their YouTube channel. They have also provided a RefWorks Guide as a text-based resource.
