DOI - Digital Object Identifiers

A guide to finding and using Digital Object Identifiers

Cite a DOI

DOI Citation Tips

  • Most major citation styles prefer DOIs over URLs, but double check your style guide if you are not using MLA, APA, or Chicago.
  • Not all electronic articles have DOIs. If no DOI is available, use the permalink URL in the citation instead.
  • In most major citation styles, DOI is written in lowercase followed by a colon (ex. doi:10.1109/5.771073)
