Citation Help

Why do you need to cite sources? Citing sources is necessary to demonstrate that you have done appropriate research, provide credit to other scholars by acknowledging their thoughts and ideas, avoid plagiarism by quoting and citing their words, and allow others to find similar research.

What do you need to cite? You need to cite any information that is learned and not your own thoughts and analysis, this includes facts, figures, or anything else that is not common knowledge. Another person's ideas or words are their own and when quoted or paraphrased need to be cited.

If you have doubt, it is best to cite your source.

Check out these links to help format your citation. These links will open in a new window.
